How to set up your single friend (without the awkward DM)
Everybody has that one friend. Smart, kind, hot, and somehow single for 18 months. You've thought "I should set them up with…" a hundred times. You never actually do it. Here's why, and how to fix it.
Why "I know this guy/girl…" DMs never work
The classic setup is one DM, blind, to one person, hoping they'll say yes. It almost never lands because: (a) you're forcing the other person to commit before they've seen anything, (b) they don't want to seem desperate by saying yes, and (c) your friend isn't there to vouch back. It dies in "maybe send pics?" purgatory.
The 2026 version: make a page, share the link
Instead of one private DM, you make a public-ish page for your friend — photos, city, green flags, ideal first date, why they're a catch. Then you share the link anywhere people might see it. Story. Group chat. WhatsApp family. Twitter. TikTok. Anyone interested sends a short intro. Your friend reads them, replies to who they like, ignores the rest.
This is what Flirtl is built for. The page takes about 60 seconds. The link is shareable with one tap. Intros land in your friend's inbox, not yours.
The 5-step setup
- Get a soft yes from your friend. "Hey can I make you a Date My Friend page? Takes me 60 seconds, you can take it down anytime." 90% say yes once they hear they're not the one writing it.
- Make the page. Three photos (face, full body, doing-the-thing). Three green flags that are specific ("texts mum every Sunday", not "kind"). One ideal first date. One line of why.
- Pick the tone. Serious, funny, roast, romantic, chaotic. Match it to your friend — a roast page for someone who hates earnestness, romantic for the hopeless one.
- Share in 3 places minimum. Your story, one group chat, and one platform where strangers can find it (TikTok, X, Reddit local sub). The viral hits come from strangers, not your bestie's brother.
- Send the inbox link to your friend. They take it from there. You're done.
What to actually say when you share it
Don't write a paragraph. Caption template that works:
"My friend [name] is one of the best people I know and somehow single. Made her a page. Send it to anyone you think she'd vibe with. [link]"
What to do if your friend says no
Some people will. That's fine. Try the soft version: make the page with no photos and send them the preview first. Letting them edit a draft is way easier than asking them to start one.
